Our History & Heritage

The Causeway Family of Dealerships was established with the opening of Causeway Ford in June of 1969. “The Summer of ’69”. David C Wintrode purchased the Ford dealership from Robert Conti. The original building was on Bay Ave at the current site of Taylor Made Cabinets and the Post Office.

The Lincoln Mercury franchises became available and were added in 1971. With thoughts of the future and the need for more room, David Wintrode purchased property on what would be the new center of Manahawkin, Route 72. The very large facility was opened in 1978. Jeep and Suzuki were a part of the family for some time as well.

Causeway Honda opened its doors in 2001, Nissan in 2007 and Hyundai in 2016.

One business practice David followed from the time he opened the doors in 1969 was community support. For years he served on non-profit board like the United Way, Southern Ocean Medical Center, The Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties and others. Causeway also supported the local public school reading programs and High school Education foundations.

When the discussion of how we would celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Causeway Ford it was an easy decision. David Wintrode wanted to put the spotlight on the Ocean County non-profit community that he has been so active in supporting all the 50 years.

The Causeway Family of Dealerships has had the privilege of serving and being part of our amazing community. In celebration of our Golden 50th Anniversary, we embarked on a yearlong campaign to help our neighbors and make a difference in Ocean County.

This endeavor commenced with our Causeway for your Cause program, through which we awarded a $10,000 grant to one local nonprofit every month, from January through November of 2019, culminating in December of 2019 with the award of a vehicle.

The Wintrode family has always been driven by the desire to give back to the community it serves through partnerships with such organizations and encouraging their collaboration to fulfill a greater need. As an extension of Causeway Family of Dealerships, Causeway CARes exists to offer consistent support, compassion, time and resources for community members in need.

Causeway CARes’ mission is to make a direct and profound impact in and around Ocean County in the areas of education, food security and quality of life. Founded in 2004 and funded by the Wintrode Family Foundation, Inc., Causeway CARes strives to make the community a better place to live, grow and thrive.
